The Merced Symphony led by Henrik Jul Hansen, Music Director joins with UC Merced Chorale led by Lorraine Walsh, Music Director to bring an evening of varied, wonderful, exciting music to Lakireddy Auditorium.  The world premier of a Concerto for Saxophone, Trombone and Percussion is followed by two songs from Stan Getz’s famous jazz recording, Focus.  Next UC Merced Chorale sings the glorious Gloria by J Rutter.  After intermission the orchestra’s strings perform a group of Norwegian dances, E Grieg’s Holberg Suite and conclude with one of classical music’s most loved, famous works, Carmen Ballet, based on Bizet’s opera Carmen.  Carmen is a fiery Gypsy whose life story is one of jealousy, immorality, lawlessness and tragic death.  The music is brilliant melody, harmony and orchestration.  More than 70 films have been based on the Carmen story including a recent one Carmen: A Hip Hopera.
